We purchased this CBD product and tested it at independent testing facilities to measure levels of CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids and compare the results to the manufacturer's claims. Here are the results. (Learn more about our review process.)
The unadulterated test results on this page come directly from these certificates of analysis from two independent labs, which we pay directly. These are two independent lab tests of one product, at one point in time. We do not guarantee that all products or labs will produce the same results. Lab results may differ based on the different methodologies of testing used by each lab or inconsistencies in the product. Added ingredients may affect lab results. Volume of creams and edibles may change due to factors such as temperature, and this may impact lab results. Learn more about our review process.
Charlotte’s Web claims to have 10.56 mg of total cannabinoids per gram. We found that each gram contains between 15.66 mg and 15.95 mg of total cannabinoids, including around 14.5 mg of CBD, 0.35 mg of THC, 0.5 of CBC, and trace levels of other cannabinoids.
*It's common to see oral CBD doses at 5 mg, 15 mg, 25 mg, and 50 mg for consumer products. Researchers use much larger doses (25 mg to 1500 mg of CBD). CBD dosing is highly individualized and much less is known about topical CBD doses.
Instructions: Massage into skin until thoroughly absorbed. Repeat as desired.
Charlotte’s Web claims this is a full-spectrum cream. Our lab tests confirmed a full-spectrum hemp extract containing CBD, THC, CBC, and trace levels of other cannabinoids.
The labs found that Charlotte’s Web contained 48% to 51% more cannabinoids than their label suggested.
Charlotte's Web is the world's largest CBD company. They created the Charlotte's Web hemp strain, which comes with real research for its unique cannabinoid combination. I've tested many of their products, which typically contain more CBD than advertised: quite a bit more.
The cost is 3.8 cents per milligram of CBD. However, the labs found that this came with about 50% more cannabinoids and we can’t guarantee that every product will test this way. According to Charlotte’s Web's claims and price, this cream costs 5.3 cents per cannabinoid.
The scent is natural and I smell some ginger. It doesn't smell great. However, the pungent hemp smell is typical among natural hemp extracts. You don't necessarily smell the hemp after a few minutes, but a floral smell mixed with ginger does linger. This cream has many natural ingredients and smells the way most potent hemp extracts smell.
This is a potent dose of CBD at 14.5 mg per gram. A gram is about a milliliter. The 0.35 mg of THC, nearly 0.50 mg of CBC, and trace amounts of other cannabinoids may increase CBD's effects. The cannabinoids in here make this is a well-rounded full-spectrum cream. This cream came with about 50% more cannabinoids than the label claims, and that's a lot. Charlotte's Web typically runs hot, but I wouldn't expect to get this much extra every time.
CBD dosing is highly individualized. There’s not enough topical-CBD research to suggest a dose. As usual, I don’t talk about my reaction to CBD because it can be misleading. CBD effects are based on your unique health conditions, tolerances, and endocannabinoid system. Look for products with similar cannabinoid levels when you find one that works.
The cream is brown. It’s doesn’t look appealing. It leaves a slight brown tint on your skin that seems to go away after a few minutes. However, you can still feel the residue of the cream long after. It’s not quite sticky, but I still feel it after an hour. The bottle is exceptionally nice, with foil, raised shiny text on top of a soothing blue image of the Colorado mountains.
Charlotte's Web is one of my favorite brands because they pushed the CBD industry into a place where you're now able to read about legal CBD products here. I am fan of the brand but not this cream. I don't particularly appreciate that the labs found over 50% more CBD. I wouldn't say I like the brown look, the residue feel, or the smell. However, this is a good buy if you want a potent full-spectrum hemp cream that is natural and from a company that pushed the CBD industry forward.
Charlotte’s Web offers CBD oil, capsules, gummies, and CBD for dogs.
