We purchased this CBD product and tested it at independent testing facilities to measure levels of CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids and compare the results to the manufacturer's claims. Here are the results. (Learn more about our review process.)
The unadulterated test results on this page come directly from these certificates of analysis from two independent labs, which we pay directly. These are two independent lab tests of one product, at one point in time. We do not guarantee that all products or labs will produce the same results. Lab results may differ based on the different methodologies of testing used by each lab or inconsistencies in the product. Added ingredients may affect lab results. Volume of creams and edibles may change due to factors such as temperature, and this may impact lab results. Learn more about our review process.
HydroCanna claims to have about 4.25 mg of CBD per gram. We found that each gram contains about 5 mg of CBD. The trace levels of other cannabinoids are insignificant.
*It's common to see oral CBD doses at 5 mg, 15 mg, 25 mg, and 50 mg for consumer products. Researchers use much larger doses (25 mg to 1500 mg of CBD). CBD dosing is highly individualized and much less is known about topical CBD doses.
HydroCANNA claims this is a full-spectrum hemp extract, which should include CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids. Our lab tests found CBD and only trace levels of additional cannabinoids. The trace levels of other cannabinoids were so low that they were only found by one lab and not the other. This is pretty much just CBD.
Note: The trace levels of THC found by lab B were below the Level of Quantitation (LOQ), which means that they were detectable but not accurately measurable. Lab A found no THC. While HydroCANNA claims this has THC, the trace levels of THC found by lab B are likely too low to have any measurable effect.
We found that HydroCANNA contained 12% to 19% more CBD than suggested by their label.
HydroCANNA is a premium skincare brand produced by Irwin Naturals. Irwin Naturals is a reputable supplement company that's been around since 1994. I tested Irwin Naturals' CBD oil in the past and although it came with a bit extra, it was a decent full-spectrum at an excellent price.
This is an excellent value at 6.7 cents per milligram of CBD. The average topical costs 17 cents per milligram. This body lotion is significantly cheaper than I was expecting from its premium packaging. However, this isn't a good deal if you were looking for a full-spectrum extract--because it's not.
This lotion smells great. It doesn't smell like a full-spectrum extract and that's because it really isn't. This is just CBD and has zero hemp smell. It smells like a wonderful lotion with a hint of orange peel. It smells so good that I almost don't care that it's not full-spectrum.
About 5 mg of CBD is on the low side for pain creams. However, this is just a body lotion and that may be enough CBD for skin health. This body cream has C60 fullerenes, which research shows are an antioxidant. The HydroCANNA box claims the molecule has been an essential part of Japanese skincare and the discovery was so enormous that the discovering scientist was awarded the Nobel Prize. It also contains Milk thistle, olive oil, Shea butter, sunflower seed oil, and a bunch of other natural ingredients.
This is pretty much just CBD. The trace levels of other cannabinoids are unlikely to bring any value to this cream. HydroCANNA lists this as a full-spectrum extract, but the trace levels of THC and other cannabinoids are not enough to label this full-spectrum.
CBD dosing is highly individualized. There’s not enough topical-CBD research to suggest a dose. As usual, I don’t talk about my reaction to CBD because it can be misleading. CBD effects are based on your unique health conditions, tolerances, and endocannabinoid system. Look for products with similar cannabinoid levels when you find one that works.
The body lotion is a silky cream that is dispersed from a premium bottle. The pump mechanism is excellent, the bottle is sturdy, and the branding is beautiful. From the cream, to the bottle, to the box, it doesn't get much nicer than this. This body lotion looks like a beauty product that costs way more than it did.
The body lotion is silky and the hint-of-citrus smell is excellent. The packaging and branding might even be better than this smells. The brand is reputable. Of course, the downfall is that HydroCANNA claims this is full-spectrum and this is just CBD with no meaningful levels of any other cannabinoids. Is this a fantastic CBD body lotion? Yes. But the labs show that this body lotion falls short of "full-spectrum" because it doesn't have the other cannabinoids. I like this body lotion so much that I'm going to use the rest of this bottle of lies.
